Leigh Griffiths has been fined £2,500 and given a suspended two-match ban after admitted singing an offensive song.

The Celtic striker, who was admonished after confessing to the incident at the Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this month, was handed the ban and fine at a personal appearance at Hampden on Tuesday afternoon.

Griffiths, who joined Celtic from Wolves in the summer of 2014, was filmed joining in the singing of a song which contained an offensive line about former Hearts player Rudi Skacel before an Edinburgh derby match at Tynecastle in April of the same year.

He was fined four weeks wages by Celtic for his part in the incident and issued an apology through the club saying: "I made a mistake, I wrongly became involved in this incident and did not fully consider my actions. I apologise unreservedly for this.

"I am pleased that the judge felt no further action was required, however this is a matter which I have absolutely learned from."

The Scottish Football Association said a disciplinary tribunal convened in accordance with the Judicial Panel Protocol to consider the case that Griffiths had breached Disciplinary Rule 86 of 'not acting in the best interests of Association Football by singing in public a song of an offensive and insulting nature'.
