Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Brazil international defender Dani Alves.

Alves negotiated his release from Juventus at the end of June and had been expected to come to the Premier League with Manchester City.

But the 34-year-old was approached by PSG last weekend and will instead ply his trade in France's Ligue 1 after signing a two-year deal.

Alves said: "I am extremely happy to sign for PSG. In recent years I've witnessed the tremendous growth of this club, which has became a strong force in European football.

"It is very exciting to become part of this great project. At every club where I've been, I've always given my best to help the team go as far as possible. Believe me, I've come to Paris to win things.

"I recognise the ambitions of my new club and the expectations of our many supporters around the world. I'm sure we're going to share some great moments.

"If Pep Guardiola and Manchester City feel hurt, I apologise to them. However, I have come here to become a champion."

PSG are looking to bounce back from missing out to Monaco on the domestic title last season and Alves brings experience of almost constant success with him to the French capital.

He won six La Liga and three Champions League titles in his time at Barcelona and helped Juventus to Serie A and Coppa Italia glory in his one season in Turin.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: "Daniel has not only been one of the best defenders in the world for a dozen years, he is also a favourite figure for football enthusiasts across all continents.

"His drive and energy will bring a lot to our squad and our fans will love his rage to always be conquering.

"By choosing PSG, Dani has proved the vitality and attractiveness of our project."
