German champions eager to strengthen strike force

Wolfsburg are eager to strengthen their strike force with the acquisition of Nilmar according to reports in Germany. The Brazilian is currently back in his homeland with Internacional where he is looking to get his career back on track after a miserable spell at Lyon. The striker failed to break into the first-team upon arrival in France in 2004 and was farmed out to Corinthians on loan after just one season at the Stade Gerland. After two seasons with Corinthians the 25-year-old joined International in 2007 where his career has taken off once more with 19 goals in 35 games. Nilmar's form has seen him linked with a return to Europe this summer after some stand-out performances with Brazil in the Confederations Cup with Manchester United even rumoured to have shown interest.

Tight lipped

But according to reports in Germany champions Wolfsburg are keen to add to their potent strike pairing of Grafite and Edin Dzeko in preparation for their UEFA Champions League campaign. However Wolfsburg manager Armin Veh remained tight lipped over the possible transfer. "Nilmar is a good striker, of course," he told the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung. "But we do not intend to make any statement on that."
