Stefan Kiessling will not be leaving Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window according to Rudi Voller.

The striker has been linked with a move to England, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said to be interested in the 31-year-old as he looks to bolster his attacking stocks.

Kiessling has been kept out of the Leverkusen side in recent weeks by in-form Javier Hernandez, although he did start on Saturday against Borussia Monchengladbach and scored twice in a 5-0 win.

But he hinted that the time might have arrived to leave the club for a fresh challenge, saying over the weekend: "I've got to be honest and say we'll have to see.

"I want to be playing a bit of football at the end of my career and that is why I've got to give things good thought. I'll speak to the bosses and see what the best solution is."

But the club's sporting executive Voller told German newspaper Bild on Monday a move was not on the cards, as he said: "It's a fact that Stefan will stay.

"Of course, he fully deserves that we consider his situation. But we need a broad squad. We've only got three-match weeks next year. He has to stay."
