Kenny Jackett had no time to enjoy his contract extension as Matt Clarke's own goal gave Peterborough a 2-1 win over Portsmouth at the ABAX Stadium.
Jackett had agreed a new deal to remain in charge at Fratton Park until 2021 before his side's away fixture.
But there was no victory to toast the deal as Posh top scorer Jack Marriott's 58th-minute opener was followed by a Matt Clarke own goal before Conor Chaplin pulled one back for Pompey.
Both sides hit the woodwork in a low-key first half, with Gwion Edwards firing against the crossbar for the hosts before Pompey striker Curtis Main hit the outside of a post.
The deadlock was eventually broken when Marriott converted a glorious Marcus Maddison cross to grab his 13th goal of the season.
Maddison was again the supplier when the hosts doubled their lead in the 70th minute as his free-kick was headed into his own net by Clarke.
Substitute Chaplin saw one effort cleared off the line before scoring with 12 minutes to go when pouncing after Danny Rose had been denied by goalkeeper Conor O'Malley, but Posh held firm to triumph.
