Rochdale missed a penalty after a fan came onto the pitch against Oldham and had to settle for a point in a goalless League One relegation battle at the Crown Oil Arena.
Latics defender Anthony Gerrard fouled Joe Thompson in the box as Dale started brightly, but before the spot kick could be taken an Oldham fan came on to remonstrate with referee Peter Bankes.
Stewards along with Gerrard eventually cleared the field but Johnny Placide saved Joe Rafferty's effort.
Dale had the ball in the net in the second-half when Calvin Andrew was deemed to have fouled Placide in the act of scoring.
The result leaves Rochdale 21st in the table, one point from safety, with Oldham just above them in 20th.
