Brentford boss Mark Warburton has told striker Andre Gray to ignore the doubters and play with a a smile on his face.

Gray, signed last summer from Luton, has scored 17 goals this season including one in the 3-0 win over Wigan which clinched a place in the play-offs.

But the 23-year-old has still come under fire from some supporters who have criticised his sharpness in front of goal.

Warburton said: "People say he's tired, he's not. He gets frustrated with himself.

"He's scored 17 goals in the Championship, coming out of the Conference, at 23 years of age. Unbelievable!

"The guys read the forums, the websites, the papers, because they are professional athletes and they want to know what people think of them. There's been some hurtful comments which have affected him in terms of he puts pressure on himself and he's too good a player to do that.

"Play with a smile on your face. I pulled him aside before the Wigan game and told him to just enjoy it. He's scored 17 goals and hopefully there are a few more to come."
