Dave Jones has been appointed the new manager of Hartlepool United.

The former Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers boss had been without a club since being sacked by Sheffield Wednesday in December 2013.

Jones succeeds Craig Hignett, who left the Sky Bet League Two club by mutual consent on Sunday after less than a year in charge.

The 60-year-old will officially take over on Monday and will be joined at the club by his No.2 Kevin Cooper.

Hartlepool have won just one of their last nine games in all competitions and sit in 19th place, just four points above the relegation zone.
