Former Rangers defender Colin Jackson has died at the age of 68, following a battle with cancer.

The London-born centre-half, who was capped eight times by Scotland, made almost 600 appearances for Rangers between 1963 and 1982.

He won every domestic honour during his 19 years at Ibrox before seeing out his career with Morton and Partick Thistle, although he missed Rangers' European Cup Winners' Cup success in 1972, after failing a late fitness test.

John Greig, who was Rangers captain for much of Jackson’s time at Ibrox, has led the tributes.

Greig told the club's official website: "I have known for some time how ill Colin was but I am devastated by the news that he has passed away, I have lost a great friend and my thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time."

Rangers chairman Dave King added: "On behalf of everyone at Rangers Football Club, I would like to send my sincere condolences to Colin's family and friends at this very sad time.

"Colin will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him."
