Atletico Madrid's Raul Jimenez was not surprised by his side's thumping 4-0 win over Sevilla, believing previous showings indicated that type of performance was coming.

The Mexican bagged his first goal for the club after arriving from Club America in the summer, adding to strikes from Koke, Saul Niguez and a Raul Garcia penalty to keep Atletico two points behind early pacesetters Barcelona.

It was Diego Simeone's first match in the Atletico dugout following his eight-match ban and the home side celebrated with a tremendous performance.

"We have been improving match by match. From the start, we have improved more and more, and today was a good time to demonstrate what we are made of," Jimenez told the club's official website.

"Everyone contributed their bit for the team to work in the best way. The fans are always cheering and chanting for us.

"Since I arrived, the squad has treated me as if I wasn't new. They took me in, treated me as if I were on the previous team and I appreciate it because it's a tight-knit group.

"I'm going step by step, making myself noticed and asking for minutes and waiting for a response from the coach. In training and the matches, I will give my all."

And his efforts have been noticed by Simeone, who predicted the forward would find the net.

"Raul Jimenez is a guy who is going to provide many solutions," he said.

"He scored the goal, he assisted (Antoine) Griezmann in the penalty. We need everyone and of course, the more players we have to compete, the more possibilities we're going to have.

"When he was taking the field, I told him to be mindful of Griezmann for the tactical approach. I was sure that he was going to score and I was right."
