Vancouver Whitecaps did not have to work hard for their opener after LA Galaxy keeper Clement Diop came and flapped at a long ball

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop made a calamitous error against Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.

With the scores at 0-0 entering the 19th minute, Diop gifted the Whitecaps their opening goal after completely misreading the flight of a long ball from Sheanon Williams.

Diop sprinted out of his box to try and perform a clearance, but ended up running behind the onrushing Christian Techera, who was able to slot the ball into the open net.

Techera's goal kick-started a 4-2 win for Vancouver over the five-time MLS champions.

LA Galaxy's Designated Player Romain Alessandrini scored a brace in the first half.

But Vancouver's Fredy Montero and Matias Laba scored inside one minute after the break as they recorded their first win of the season. Laba also added another late goal to secure the Canadian club's win.
