The Morning View: Rob Wotton looks back at the week
Friday 1 May 2015 21:09, UK
Sky Sports News HQ's Rob Wotton takes us through another jam-packed week on The Morning View in his weekly blog.
It was the week on The Morning View when Chelsea moved inexorably towards the title, lukewarm warm-ups were blamed for defeats & Stuart McCall claimed he’d rather be on a training ground than in our studio – what a cheek!!! But we start with those pre-match preparations that went wrong.
WARNING OF THE WEEK
The manner of Manchester United’s defeat at Everton may have come as a surprise to many, but not to Louis van Gaal! The Old Trafford boss was furious with his players after the game because he said the match was lost before it even kicked off. The Dutch boss believed the players’ lack of focus in the warm-up was behind the defeat. Steve Round has taken many players through the build up to games at both Everton and United and believes it can be a tough job to focus their minds on the job.
CLAIM OF THE WEEK
It’s been the week where teams have been celebrating promotion and sides have been bemoaning relegation. Martin Allen one of those as he won the title in the Conference. But amongst the tears and the cheers came a claim that caught our eye on The Morning View. A declaration so strong we had to put it to the Barnet boss and Tony Gale.
BACKING OF THE WEEK
Think it’s fair to say Phil Thompson was feeling down when he came into The Morning View on Wednesday! Liverpool’s defeat at Hull the night before effectively ended their hopes of Champions League football next season. After a campaign that started with so much optimism, it’s turned to disappointment. But despite his pain, Phil still believes Brendan Rodgers will come good at Anfield.
RANT OF THE WEEK … OR MAYBE EVER!!
Leicester’s defeat at home to Chelsea prompted Nigel Pearson to take a reporter to task over a question. The Leicester manager likened his inquisitor to an ostrich, claiming he had his head in the sand! He has since apologised. But when it comes to post match outbursts it doesn’t even come close to the greatest ever that funnily enough happened 19 years ago to that very day. Kevin Keegan’s rant to the Sky Sports cameras as Newcastle’s season began to fall apart is the stuff of folklore and the man who was at the epicentre of it all, Stuart Pearce, just happened to be with Ray Wilkins on The Morning View this Thursday.
SNUB OF THE WEEK
Stuart McCall’s been a regular guest on The Morning View but now he’s swapped a nice warm studio for a tracksuit and a shot at getting his beloved Rangers promoted. Surely though he’d much rather be in Sky Studios at the heart of everything on Sky Sports News HQ?
TWEET OF THE WEEK
Steve Evans and Rotherham celebrated victory over Reading and Championship survival in style. The champagne flowed and the party went on late into the night. But there was still one matter to be decided when Steve joined us on The Morning View the next day. A decision so important that he’s left it in the hands of you and your Twitter account!!!
So the season is reaching its climax, sombreros and all, and you can join us again for The Morning View. We’re back on Bank Holiday Monday for all the action and reaction to a blockbuster weekend. Make sure you tune in then and every weekday from 10am when our guests will include Ray Wilkins, Andy Hinchcliffe, Tommy Elphick, Stuart Pearce, Mark Warburton and plenty more. Don’t forget you can also catch up On Demand!
