Defender ready to play through pain barrier

Internazionale defender Cristian Chivu is ready to play through the pain barrier to face Liverpool in next week's UEFA Champions League clash. Chivu suffered a shoulder injury in last weekend's defeat to Napoli when he fell awkwardly and his left shoulder popped out. The Romanian was rated doubtful to tackle Liverpool on 11th March after picking up the knock. It was feared Chivu may have to undergo surgery to cure the problem, but Chivu is considering playing with heavy strapping to his shoulder to ensure he is fit to start against Liverpool. "There is not too much pain to say I won't play," Chivu told the Italian media. "I'll play against Liverpool, cost what it may." Inter are keen to have Chivu available as they are without injured trio Walter Samuel, Ivan Cordoba and Olivier Dacourt and the suspended Marco Materazzi for the return leg with Liverpool. If Chivu does decide to go under the knife on the injury he could miss this summer's Euro 2008 with Romania.
