Serie A: AC Milan 3 Parma 1

Jeremy Menez of AC Milan celebrates after scoring the opening goal during the Serie A match between AC Milan and Udinese

Jeremy Menez scored twice and set up a third goal as AC Milan beat Parma 3-1 to climb to eighth place in the Serie A table.

The former Paris St Germain forward saw his early penalty cancelled out by Milan loanee Antonio Nocerino, who has recently swapped San Siro for a relegation dogfight with basement boys Parma.

Menez restored the lead for Filippo Inzaghi's side just before the hour and former Parma defender Cristian Zaccardo wrapped up the scoring to condemn the Gialloblu to an eighth straight away defeat.

The victory snaps a run of five league games without a win for Milan and boosts them to within five points of fourth-placed Lazio, who occupy the final Europa League berth.

Despite their recent ineptitudes it was Parma who started brightest in Milan and they might have opened the scoring through Nocerino, who instead made a mess of Massimo Gobbi's pass.

As it was Milan scored first through Menez, who beat Antonio Mirante with a firmly driven spot-kick.

In the 16th minute Cristian Rodriguez had controlled Zaccardo's header with his arm, thus conceding the penalty and allowing Menez to bring up his 11th goal of the season.

Milan had a second goal chalked off in the 21st minute as ex-Parma defender Zaccardo was ruled to be offside when turning Adil Rami's pass beyond his one-time team-mate Mirante.

It fell to another exile to wound his employers with Nocerino levelling three minutes later.

The Rossoneri defence fell asleep before Daniele Galloppa's free-kick bounced off Rodriguez's head and into the path of Nocerino, who netted from two yards.

Milan hit back straight away as Alex clattered a post with Mirante beaten and the ball was soon slammed against the other upright by the onrushing Rami.

Marco van Ginkel saw Mirante off his line and fed debutant Mattia Destro for the attempt, but the ball dipped too late and nestled in the top of the net.

Parma enjoyed a double chance just before the break yet Diego Lopez would make fine saves on both Silvestre Varela and Nocerino.

Inzaghi's men looked more composed when play resumed and it was not long before Menez converted his brace to restore Milan's lead.

In the 57th minute the Frenchman collected Alessio Cerci's pass before controlling the ball and driving it into Mirante's bottom corner with his left boot.

Parma's challenge subsided from that point forward and Milan came close to scoring goal number three in the 74th minute as Mirante dived to repel Cerci's right-footed attempt.

Zaccardo rubbed salt in Parma's wounds with a finish over Mirante's shoulders, thanks to Menez's nimble footwork down the right, but at least the World Cup winner did not celebrate.

The Gialloblu almost pulled the scoreline back to 3-2 in the dying minutes, yet Lopez flicked Galloppa's strike out for a corner after the Parma midfielder was set up by debutant Lukas Haraslin.
