Accrington pay penalty against strugglers

Ryan Lowe scored his 17th goal of the season from the penalty spot to boost Chester's battle against the drop with a priceless 1-0 win at Accrington. Defender Colin Murdock tackled striker Kevin Ellison in the area in the 41st minute and Lowe fired the spot kick down the middle to seal three precious points. Both sides had chances in the first half, Lowe being denied by the legs of Stanley goalkeeper Kenny Arthur in the first half while Murdock's pin-point header was just over Jamie Spencer's goal. Former Stanley player Anthony Barry was a danger and blasted an effort wide while Reds defender Robbie Williams had a cross-cum-shot tipped over by Spencer. After the break, Ellison hit a post after breaking through unmarked and his 16-year-old replacement Ben Jones wasted two good opportunities to increase the lead.
