Bryan Hughes out Shrewsbury's promotion party on hold with a late equaliser for Accrington in a 1-1 draw at the Crown Ground.
It had looked like former Stanley striker Terry Gornell had secured the Shrews an League One spot, with other results going their way, after he pounced in the 31st minute to fire home Mark Wright's cross from 10 yards. But substitute Hughes hammered home from 20 yards after 78 minutes when Ian Sharps failed to clear his lines to put the party on hold. Both sides hit the woodwork in the first half, with Aaron Wildig's effort tipped onto the crossbar by Stanley keeper Ian Dunbavin while, on the stroke of half-time, Luke Joyce's effort clipped the bar. Stanley pressed after the break but visiting keeper Chris Neal twice denied Padraig Amond from close range while Joyce's header was cleared off the line. Neal also tipped over a Jamie Devitt effort before mid-table Stanley finally levelled. The Shrews are five points ahead of fourth-placed Torquay with two games to play.
