Ten-man Aldershot battle to 1-0 victory

Aldershot striker John Grant endured an eventful afternoon as he scored the decisive goal and missed a penalty in his side's 1-0 win over Exeter. Grant scored the winner eight minutes after the half-time interval but squandered a chance to seal the points in the 76th minute when Paul Jones saved his spot-kick. The Shots were reduced to 10 men late in the game when Danny Hylton saw red for a lunge on Steve Tully but there was no way back for Exeter. Fired by last weekend's cup defeat at Curzon Ashton, Exeter made the brighter start and went close after five minutes when Daniel Seaborne headed wide from Dean Moxey's inswinging corner. But Aldershot dominated after the break and went ahead in the 53rd minute through Grant's fourth goal of the season as he latched onto Tully's poor back pass and fired home off the post. Moxey's foul on Scott Davies gave Grant the chance to double the lead from the spot with 14 minutes left but Jones dived to his right to save before Hylton was dismissed in the 88th minute.
