Le Fondre nets only goal at EBB Stadium after mistake by Brown

A late Adam Le Fondre goal handed Rotherham the advantage in their League Two play-off semi-final against Aldershot. The Rotherham striker latched onto a poor Aaron Brown back-pass to slot home his 29th goal of the season past replacement keeper Mickael Jaimez-Ruiz with two minutes to spare. The hot-shot's strike handed Ronnie Moore's side the advantage before their second-leg tie at the Don Valley Stadium on Wednesday, with the winners set to face either Dagenham & Redbridge or Morecambe in the final at Wembley on 30th May. Aldershot made six changes to the team which lost at Morecambe last time, while strike pairing Ryan Taylor and leading scorer Le Fondre were the only changes to the Millers side which slumped 3-0 to Hereford last time out.

    Cagey

The teams had met at the EBB Stadium last month with the Shots emerging 3-0 winners but this game was cagey. The home started better but had Scott Donnelly booked in the fifth minute for a late challenge on Pablo Mills. Shots then lost keeper Jamie Young to injury after he had punched away Taylor's cross under pressure from Le Fondre. The game opened up as the half wore on and Le Fondre almost got onto Andy Sandell's back header. Nicky Law then forced Venezuelan replacement keeper Jaimez-Ruiz into a save before Shots broke up field and Andy Warrington had to save well from Dean Morgan who was one-on-one with the keeper. Marvin Morgan then played a one-two before running into the box in injury time but Gavin Gunning made a great block as the half finished all square.
    Free header
In the second period, Nick Fenton had a free header early on but Brown cleared near to the line. On the hour mark Taylor then wasted the best chance of the evening after putting his free header from close range wide from Mark Lynch's fine cross from the right. Soon afterwards Shots skipper Anthony Charles was booked for a late challenge on Le Fondre. Anthony Straker then put two half-chances wide before Le Fondre netted the decisive strike to break Shots hearts.
