Shrewsbury fail to make up ground in play-off race

Shrewsbury failed to make up ground in the League Two play-off race as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Aldershot. But, having been beaten in their last three away games, boss Paul Simpson will perhaps be satisfied with a point. The visitors, with only one win on their travels this campaign, began brightly and should have gone ahead when Ben Davies skipped clear to cross only for the unmarked Grant Holt to head inches wide. From that moment on the hosts began to exert control but although they enjoyed the bulk of possession they struggled to fashion any clear-cut chances. Jake Robinson was at the hub of the all Shots good work and he had Shrews keeper Luke Daniels scrambling with a shot on the turn after 18 minutes and also teed up Scott Davies to go close. Things evened up in the second period as the game lost its shape and both sides struggled to gain any advantage, but it was the visitors that came closest when Shane Cansdell-Sheriff forced Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz into a fine save.
