      Swindon survive Aldershot scare

Swindon new-boy Mark Marshall held his nerve from 12 yards to send the Robins through in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as they won 7-6 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw at Aldershot. With the scores at 6-6 in the spot-kicks Junior Osbourne blazed wildly over the bar for Aldershot and Marshall, a recent signing from non-League outfit Eastleigh, stepped up to send his side through. Billy Paynter earlier blew the chance to end the tie when he saw his spot-kick saved by Nikki Bull at 4-4 after John Grant had missed with the Shots' second penalty. In normal time Swindon had broken the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Anthony McNamee's deep corner was headed down by Jerel Ifil and Simon Cox squeezed the ball over the line, for his fifth of the season, before Rob Elvins beat the keeper on the stroke of half-time for the leveller. And two minutes after the break Shots were in front when Scott Davies converted from the penalty spot after Ifil brought down Hylton. Shots pushed for the killer third but Swindon forced penalties in the 83rd minute when Ifil smashed home Chris Allen's corner and Marshall eventually ended the marathon shootout.
