Aldershot v Macclesfield preview
Friday 7 October 2011 11:10, UK
Team news ahead of Saturday's League Two clash between Aldershot and Macclesfield at Recreation Ground.
Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth must decide whether any of the quintet who came in for the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Oxford have done enough to retain a starting berth. Goalkeeper Jamie Young, defender Aaron Brown as well as midfielders Anthony Pulis, Peter Vincenti and Bruno Andrade all started the 2-1 home reverse as Shots failed to match their Carling Cup exploits. Ross Worner, Luke Guttridge, Jermaine McGlashan and Michael Rankine dropped to the bench, while centre-back Aaron Morris failed to overcome the knock which forced him to hobble off in the second half of last Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Accrington. Morris will again be assessed while the remaining quartet, of which Rankine, McGlashan and Guttridge stepped off the bench, will hope to regain their starting spots. But nothing is assured as Holdsworth looks to end a run of three successive defeats in all competitions which has made the club's eight-match unbeaten run a distant memory. Macclesfield could be without a host of players for the trip as they look to put an end to their poor away form. Gary Simpson's side have lost their last five consecutive games away from the Moss Rose and have not scored in their previous four matches on the road. They will definitely be without Elliott Hewitt and Arnaud Mendy who are both on international duty. Hewitt has been called up to the Wales Under-21 squad and Mendy is line to represent Guinea Bissau. George Donnelly (ribs) was left out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy loss to Crewe as a precaution while Shaun Brisley (groin) and Matt Hamshaw (ankle) came off injured in that match. All three are doubtful. Striker Waide Fairhurst is also struggling with an ankle problem he sustained in training. Defender Paul Morgan (broken arm), goalkeeper Jack Cudworth (ankle) and midfielder Colin Daniel (ankle ligaments) are all still out of contention.
