Ligue 1: PSG shrug off Neymar absence to stretch 13 points clear
Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe on target
Saturday 12 January 2019 21:54, UK
Paris St Germain shrugged off Neymar's absence as they beat Amiens 3-0 to stretch their Ligue 1 lead to 13 points.
Thomas Tuchel's side, who suffered a shock League Cup exit to Guingamp in midweek, struggled without the rested Brazilian during the first half of the contest.
But Edinson Cavani converted a 57th-minute penalty to break the deadlock and after Khaled Adenon was sent off, further goals from Kylian Mbappe and Marqinhos made sure of the result.
The French champions' non-nonsense win lifts them to 50 points - 13 ahead of second-placed Lille, who have played two more games.
Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria had gone close before Uruguay striker Cavani finally bagged his 11th league goal this season when Alexis Blin was punished for handball.
Adenon saw red for a second yellow in the 66th minute and Amiens task quickly got even tougher, Mbappe latching onto a cross from Cavani (70) for his 14th goal of the campaign.
Centre-back Marquinhos rounded off an ultimately comfortable afternoon 11 minutes from time as PSG continue their march towards the title.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1 on Saturday, former Sunderland forward Wahbi Khazri's deflected free-kick helped Saint-Etienne to a 1-0 win at Guingamp.
It was Khazri's 10th league goal and it helped Saint-Etienne move up to fourth place.
Finally, Nice are up to sixth after beating Bordeaux 1-0 at the Allianz Riviera.
Allan Saint-Maximin's penalty after 16 minutes was enough to secure victoryfor Patrick Vieira's side.
