Columbus Crew advanced to the MLS Eastern Conference semi-finals with a penalty shoot-out win over Atlanta United on Thursday evening.
Columbus goalkeeper Zack Steffen was the hero at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, stopping eight shots during 120 minutes and two in the shoot-out to set up a Conference semi-final clash with New York City FC.
Crew had a chance to win it in the last minutes of extra-time, but Harrison Afful's header was cleared off the line by Michael Parkhurst to leave the tie goalless.
Julian Gressel and Leandro Gonzalez Pirez missed Atlanta's first two spot-kicks, and Adam Jahn slotted his shot home for Columbus as they won the shoot-out 3-1.
Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City also went into extra-time in their knockout fixture, with Alberth Elis settling matters in Houston's favour after 94 minutes with his 11th goal of the season.
Elis took the ball on the edge of the six-yard box and slotted past Andrew Dykstra for the 1-0 win, with the Dynamo due to face the Portland Timbers in the Western Conference semi-final.
