Sparta sunk by defending champions
Defending Eredivisie champions AZ Alkmaar beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-0 on Friday to record their first three-point haul of the season.
AZ lost their opening fixture at Heracles Almelo but goals from Moussa Dembele and Mounir El Hamdaoui secured a first win of 2009/10.
Belgium striker Dembele opened the scoring for Alkmaar after six minutes when he converted a pass from last year's top scorer El Hamdaoui.
Alkmaar were still not at their best and missed several chances but after 64 minutes captain Stijn Schaars set up El Hamdaoui to double their lead and seal the victory.
Martin Jol's Ajax host RKC Waalwijk on Saturday while PSV Eindhoven visit Steve McClaren's FC Twente on Sunday when Vitesse Arnhem welcome Feyenoord.
