Barnsley edged through to the second round of the Carabao Cup with a stunning late goal from Ryan Hedges sealing a 4-3 win over League Two Morecambe at Oakwell.

In the 22nd minute Barnsley doubled their lead with new signing Ike Ugbo seizing upon the hesitation of Patrick Brough. He drove at the Morecambe defence and fired the ball across the box, benefiting from a deflection into the net by Mitchell Lund.
With the first half petering out, Morecambe found a route back into the game through Sam Lavelle. An out-swinging corner from Michael Rose rebounded around in the box, and the ball fell to Lavelle who brilliantly volleyed into the top corner, halving the deficit at the break.
Just as in the first half Barnsley started the quicker side as Tom Bradshaw headed in an Adam Hamill cross straight from the restart. Morecambe were given hope again however as Vadaine Oliver was wrestled to the ground by Angus MacDonald following a corner in the 49th minute, resulting in skipper Rose converting the penalty, before the visitors levelled in the 82nd minute with Oliver heading in a Garry Thompson cross.
Barnsley stung right at the end however when Hedges unleashing a stunning strike on his left foot from outside the box into the far corner in the fifth minute of added time.
