Nurnberg started the day third from bottom and would have moved above Arminia Bielefeld with three points at Signal Iduna Park.
However, neither side could break the deadlock and Nurnberg remain in deep trouble with just three games of the season remaining.
The result takes Borussia Dortmund up one place to 12th ahead of Saturday's action in the Bundesliga.
