German earns Gilllingham point
Monday 24 November 2014 10:50, UK
Gillingham substitute Antonio German scrambled a stoppage-time equaliser to earn his side a 1-1 draw at Bradford City.
Bradford's had the better of a goalless first half, their best chance falling to substitute midfielder Billy Knott in the 34th minute, when his goalbound shot from Jon Stead's cross was turned on to the post by Gills goalkeeper Stuart Nelson. The Bantams deservedly went in front in the 56th minute thanks to an own goal from visitors' defender Leon Legge. On-loan midfielder Andy Halliday took advantage of a slip by Gillingham's Kortney Hause and cut in from the right before his curling shot was turned into his own net by Legge as he attempted to clear. The home side almost scored a second after 77 minutes when Billy Clarke provided an opening for substitute James Hanson, whose shot beat the advancing Nelson but struck the post. Gillingham rallied in the last 10 minutes and were rewarded when Brennan Dickenson's right-wing corner was headed back across goal by Legge and German scrambled the ball over the line.
