Rodwell and Gueye on target for Moyes' men

Everton maintained their 100 per cent record in Australia with a 2-1 victory over Brisbane Roar on Saturday. The Toffees wrapped up their pre-season tour Down Under with a third victory in as many outings. Promising French striker Magaye Gueye bagged the winner for David Moyes' men, tapping home seven minutes from time. Jack Rodwell had opened the scoring for the Premier League side, but they were pegged back by Kosta Barbarouses. Everton made the brighter start to an entertaining contest and Jermaine Beckford, on his first start for his new employers, was almost gifted an early opener when he chased down an under-hit back pass.

      Dangerous

Fellow frontman Louis Saha then tested the reflexes of former Norwich goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos, before bringing an end to a goalless first-half with a disappointing finish after a positive burst. It took the Toffees just four minutes of the second half to break the deadlock, though, with Rodwell curling a delightful effort into the back of the net from the edge of the box. The visitors continued to look the more dangerous thereafter, with Seamus Coleman firing narrowly over and Victor Anichebe also coming close. However, the Roar found an unlikely equaliser on 66 minutes when Barbarouses lashed home from a tight angle following a quickly-taken free-kick. Everton were not to be denied, though, and completed a clean sweep of tour successes when 20-year-old substitute Gueye was on hand to poke a Jose Baxter cross over the line from close range on 83 minutes.
