Hinton and Lambert on target at Memorial Stadium

Bristol Rovers moved up to 15th place in League One with a 2-0 victory over Cheltenham at the Memorial Stadium. As half-time approached the two sides could not be separated but Craig Hinton made sure it was Rovers that went into the break ahead when he struck in the 40th minute with a well taken header. The goal was Hinton's fifth of the season, an impressive haul for a defender, and it provided the foundations for a comfortable enough second half. Paul Trollope's side made sure of a three-point haul nine minutes from time when Rickie Lambert delighted the home faithful with his 13th goal of an impressive campaign. The in-form front-man struck with a crisp free-kick after Robins keeper Shane Higgs was penalised for handling a back pass. Cheltenham's woes were exacerbated when Stephen Gillespie was wasteful from the penalty spot after a foul by Rovers' Daniel Coles. The win leaves Rovers a full seven points from the drop zone, but it is considerably tighter for Cheltenham, who are just a point ahead of third from bottom Crewe.
