Burton Albion were rampant as they thrashed Morecombe 5-2 at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.
The game was the first Football League game witnessed by the home crowd and they were treated to a spectacle as Albion came out of the traps at alarming speed.
Greg Pearson headed the home side in front after just 3 minutes before Russell Penn doubled their advantage on 15 minutes.
Ian Craney pulled one back for Morecombe just a minute later but the two goal advantage was restored as Shaun Harrad drilled in from just outside the penalty area.
A penalty from Greg Pearson put the side into a 4-1 lead after Danny Adams had brought him down moments earlier.
Phil Jevons pulled another goal back for Morecombe on 62 minutes as they threatened to make a comeback.
However, John McGrath restored the three goal cushion once more with his effort on 75 minutes before the home side held out for full time.
There was further misery for Morecombe boss Peter McGuigan as Marky Duffy received his marching orders after bringing down Paul Boertien on 87 minutes.
