Trotter and Jarman on target for Grimsby

Struggling Grimsby held on to beat Bury 2-0 for their first league win of the season despite spending most of the game with 10 men. Liam Trotter and Nathan Jarman gave the Mariners a deserved two-goal lead inside 22 minutes, and although Jean-Paul Kalala was shown a second yellow card before the break, Bury were unable to avoid a fifth straight home defeat. Nick Hegarty and Jamie Clarke both went close for Grimsby before they took the lead following a left-wing cross by Tom Newey. The ball looped up off the head of defender Ryan Cresswell and Trotter was on hand to head home from two yards. The visitors quickly doubled their lead with Jarman getting in behind Efe Sodje to turn Clarke's right-wing cross inside the far post. Robert Atkinson should have scored a third Grimsby goal but headed straight at keeper Wayne Brown.
