Bury lose again at Gigg Lane

High-flying Bury crashed to their third successive home defeat against bottom of the table strugglers Luton. Tom Craddock and Ian Roper struck in the last 10 minutes of the first half to put the visitors in charge and although Andy Bishop hit back with a penalty after 53 minutes, the Shakers failed to avoid a third straight home defeat. Bury's on-loan striker Chris O'Grady hit the top of the crossbar after six minutes and the visitors had a goal disallowed shortly after when Jack Howells's goalbound effort went in off Martin, who was prone on the goal-line. O'Grady and Bishop went close for Bury before Luton broke the deadlock as Bury goalkeeper Wayne Brown let Craddock's 12-yard strike squirm from his grasp and over the line. The Hatters doubled their lead a minute before the break when Bury full-back David Buchanan failed to deal with a corner and Craddock crossed for the unmarked Roper to head home. Richie Baker was brought down by Roper shortly after replacing Mike Jones at half-time and Bishop, who missed from the spot in midweek, converted with aplomb to give the hosts hope.
