Cambridge all but confirmed their Sky Bet League Two safety with a 0-0 draw against Swindon who saw their play-off hopes harmed as a result.
The U's are now nine points above the bottom two with three games remaining.
Swindon started strongly and Kaiyne Woolery blazed over after Kyle Bennett's surging run inside 10 minutes. Woolery also struck a powerful effort from distance which was pushed away by Dimitar Mitov.
Cambridge grew into the game and Michael Doughty denied the hosts with a goal-line clearance from George Taft following a Jevani Brown corner 10 minutes before the break.
After the break, Harrison Dunk ran half the length of the pitch and teed up Rushian Hepburn-Murphy to fire wide, though Swindon almost went ahead 20 minutes from time when Mitov saved and held Doughty's piledriver from long range.
Hayden Coulson's cross was destined for Jabo Ibehre in front of goal, only for a defender to divert it behind for a corner to deny Cambridge the chance of a winner.
There was still time for Mitov to save from Doughty again, brilliantly tipping his free-kick wide late on.
