Peterborough hit Cheltenham for six

Craig Mackail-Smith inspired Peterborough to a dazzling 6-3 victory against 10-man Cheltenham at Whaddon Road. George Boyd's third-minute strike was all that separated the sides at the break as the Peterborough playmaker rifled home from the edge of the area, while Ashley Vincent levelled three minutes into the second half from the spot after he had been fouled by Charlie Lee. Lee headed his side back in front after 61 minutes with Mackail-Smith then netting a third two minutes later with a 12-yard drive. Elvis Hammond gave the home side hope in the 67th minute with a close-range drive but an Alan Wright own goal, following a teasing run and cross from Mackail-Smith, put the visitors back in the driving seat. Substitute Lloyd Owusu gave the Cheltenham fans something to cheer as he cut the gap with four minutes to go with a volley but Aaron Mclean responded within seconds, firing into the bottom corner, with Chris Whelpdale adding a sixth in injury time with a header. The Robins' miserable afternoon was complete when striker Barry Hayles was sent off late on for violent conduct.
