Cheltenham win despite Gill dismissal

Ben Gill enjoyed mixed emotions after scoring and getting sent off as Cheltenham got off the mark for the season with a 2-0 win over Swindon. The 20-year-old slid home Barry Hayles' neat lay-off after 62 minutes for the opener but earned a yellow card for over-celebrating. Seven minutes later he tugged back Kasali Casel to earn a second yellow and an early bath. But 10-man Cheltenham shrugged off his dismissal to extend their lead 10 minutes from time when loan signing Jennison Myrie-Williams headed in Alex Russell's cross. Swindon enjoyed large chunks of possession but were denied by in-form keeper Shane Higgs . Higgs denied defender Sean Morrison with a fingertip save from an Anthony McNamee cross after just eight minute and pulled off an even better stop to keep out Michael Timlin's piledriver seven minutes before the interval. At the start of the second half some shaky defending from the home team allowed Simon Cox in but his shot flew just over. Veteran defender Alan Wright then gave the ball away to Jon-Paul McGovern, but Craig Armstrong cleared with Cox poised to strike.
