Chester triumph against fellow strugglers

Ryan Lowe scored twice as Chester saw off fellow strugglers Accrington Stanley 2-0. The opening goal of the game came against the run of play after 34 minutes when Kevin Ellison's persistence down the left paid off and he crossed for Lowe who had the time to control the ball and calmly slot it into the net from six yards out. Jimmy Ryan came close to an equaliser in first-half stoppage time with a fierce free-kick which Chester keeper John Danby acrobatically turned over the bar. Robert Grant came off the bench just before the hour but his first contribution was to up-end Anthony Barry in the box and referee Steve Bratt pointed straight to the spot for Lowe to send keeper Ian Dunbavin the wrong way. Moments later, Clarke was presented with a great chance to pull one back for Accrington, but he skied his effort over the bar, and with 15 minutes remaining, Danby then produced an outstanding save to touch a low drive from John Miles against the foot of the post. Chester also rattled the woodwork with a fantastic curling effort from Ellison which struck the crossbar before Laurence Wilson was denied by an excellent save from Dunbavin from close range.
