McManus cancels out Holt's opener for Shrews

High flying Shrewsbury had to settle for a point as they were pegged back by Chester in a 1-1 draw. The Shrews took the lead in the 28th minute when they were awarded a controversial penalty. Ben Davies went down in the box under a challenge from James Vaughan, and Grant Holt made no mistake with the spot-kick sending John Danby the wrong way. Chester levelled maters in the 43rd minute when Ryan Lowe's right wing cross was deftly touched in by Paul McManus, the ball being guided across the keeper and going in off the post. Kevin Ellison had a great opportunity when the ball broke to him on the penalty spot, but the chance fell on his weaker right foot and he dragged his shot wide. The Shrews then hit the post twice in the space of a minute. First substitute Chris Humphrey connected with a volley which came back off the post, and in the next attack Dave Hibbert outstripped the Chester defence and saw his effort hit the outside of the post as the game ended all square.
