Carlisle claimed a 3-1 victory over Chesterfield to progress into the JPT Northern Section semi-final.

Spireites unable to hold onto first-half lead

Carlisle came from a goal down to record a 3-1 victory over Chesterfield and progress to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Section semi-final. After Chesterfield had lost Gregor Robertson to a suspected broken leg, Carlisle should have gone in front but Kevan Hurst somehow missed from two yards out and then Joe Anyinsah fired wide from 15 yards. Carlisle were punished in first-half stoppage time when Tom Taiwo fouled Scott Boden and the linesman flagged for a penalty which substitute Darren Currie dispatched low into the bottom-right corner. Jack Lester was denied a second in the 52nd minute by a good save from Adam Collin and an Ian Breckin header hit the bar before Carlisle levelled in the 62nd minute. Taiwo was again involved, crossing from the left for Matt Robson to score at the back post with a downward header and the visitors were ahead seven minutes later when Peter Murphy headed in a corner. Carlisle settled it in the 78th minute when Robson played in Adam Clayton who finished from 15 yards.
