Shrewsbury missed the chance to go top of League Two when they were held to a 2-2 draw with Chesterfield.

Spireites stage remarkable comeback at the Recreation Ground

Shrewsbury missed out on the chance to go top of League Two when they let slip a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Chesterfield. A double from Grant Holt put them in charge but the Spireites struck twice in the space of five second half minutes to take a point. Holt made no mistake with a penalty after 45 minutes when Robert Page had pulled him down after a Richard Walker flick on. The hosts created only one clear chance in the first half when Jack Lester set up Jamie Ward, but he shot well wide from the edge of the box. The same combination almost caught Shrewsbury out at the start of the second half but the visitors struck again after 54 minutes when Holt drilled a shot into the top left corner after Richard Walker had headed down. But a blunder by Glynn Garner put Chesterfield back in the game when he palmed a Darren Currie shot into his net after 67 minutes and Ward levelled from the spot five minutes later when Lester was tripped.
