Colchester ensured their play-off chase will go down to the final day of the season after beating automatic promotion hopefuls MK Dons 2-0.
Sammie Szmodics gave Colchester the lead after 95 seconds, drilling in a low shot from the edge of the area after the Dons had only partially cleared Sam Saunders' corner.
Frank Nouble missed two decent chances for the hosts while David Wheeler's shot rattled the crossbar just before the half hour for the Dons.
Colchester almost doubled their lead just before the break when Courtney Senior capitalised on Dean Lewington's mistake and raced towards goal, only to see his low shot kept out by Lee Nicholls.
And the hosts doubled their lead in the 48th minute through defender Frankie Kent, who slotted confidently past Nicholls from just inside the area after Nouble and Szmodics had done well to set up the chance.
Nicholls foiled Senior when through on goal, while at the other end Chuks Aneke rattled a post for MK Dons as impressive Colchester recorded a notable win.
