Morecambe picked up a valuable away point after holding promotion-chasing Colchester to a 0-0 draw.
There was little to choose between the two sides in the first half.
The best chance of the half fell to Morecambe on the half hour when Rhys Oates fired wide from a good position, after Colchester goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin had parried Jordan Cranston's effort into his path.
At the other end, Luke Conlan's challenge in the area blocked Sammie Szmodics' shot after a good interchange between Frank Nouble and Kane Vincent-Young.
Morecambe went close early in the second half when Oates headed wide from a good position after Alex Kenyon had headed Liam Mandeville's corner into his path.
Cranston's long-range shot then flashed just over but Mark Halstead was forced to push away Vincent-Young's low shot just before the hour.
Vincent-Young struck the inside of a post with four minutes remaining but neither side could muster a winner, with Colchester fourth in League Two.
