Moussa down Us in Essex rivalry

Franck Moussa's first goal in English football gave Southend local bragging rights as they beat Essex rivals Colchester 1-0. Teenager Moussa struck in the 14th minute for the Shrimpers, converting Theo Robinson's first-time cross from close range after a clearance had caught out the Colchester defence. Moussa's strike sealed Southend's first away win in 13 matches and inflicted upon Colchester their third successive defeat, in front of the biggest league crowd at the Weston Homes Community Stadium to date. Defender Pat Baldwin squandered a glaring chance to level for Colchester when he ballooned over the bar from two yards and Shrimpers goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall made a fine save to deny Mark Yeates and at the other end, Southend's Jean-Francois Christophe wastefully headed over Moussa's free-kick in first-half stoppage-time. In a quieter second half, substitute Steven Gillespie spurned a good chance to equalise for Colchester with 15 minutes to go when he headed Marc Tierney's long pass wide when unmarked in the penalty area but, despite six minutes of stoppage-time, Steve Tilson's side clinched victory.
