Four second-half goals as West Brom capitalise on Mifsud red card

West Bromwich Albion produced a powerful second-half performance to beat 10-man Coventry City 4-0 to move back into second in the Championship. Paul Robinson, who scored the only goal in this fixture last season, put West Brom ahead on 56 minutes and Filipe Teixeira added a brace at the Ricoh Arena before Robert Koren pounced in injury-time. But Coventry were hindered by the 10th minute dismissal of Michael Mifsud, who was sent off for a challenge on visiting full-back Carl Hoefkens. The away side started brightly, with Ishmael Miller poking wide after a strong run from near the halfway line and Teixeira hitting a weak shot at Dimitrios Konstantopoulos from 20 yards. Moments later, The Sky Blues were down to 10 men when, after a lengthy delay by referee Phil Dowd, Mifsud was sent off for a nasty clash with Hoefkens - the Maltese sizing up his prey before leading with the forearm. Coventry's response to the setback was to almost take the lead on 18 minutes when Dele Adebola glanced a corner just past the far upright. West Brom lost James Morrison to a knee injury before half-time, while Teixeira set his sights for later when forcing Konstantopoulos to tip over his curling shot. Chances were traded at the start of the second half, with Michael Doyle slicing his attempt off target before Konstantopoulos grasped Zoltan Gera's dipping effort at the second time of asking. The Baggies' breakthrough arrived on 56 minutes as Robinson fed Robert Koren before continuing his run to collect Gera's through ball and then lifting his shot over Konstantopoulos and into the net. Just two minutes later it was 2-0 as Teixeira capitalised on hesitant defending between Ben Turner and Arjan De Zeeuw to clip his shot home at the near post. Robinson saw a shot deflected just wide, Jonathan Greening was narrowly off target with a 25-yard piledriver and Miller drove into the side-netting as West Brom scented more goals. On 73 minutes, Teixeira twisted and turned in the box before creating a yard of space to squeeze his right-footed shot beyond Konstantopoulos. And in stoppage-time, Teixeira turned provider for the fourth goal, unselfishly squaring the ball across goal to provide Koren with a simple tap-in.
