Jones brace seals Railway victory

Billy Jones netted twice as Crewe won their relegation six-pointer 2-1 against 10-man Hereford. The visitors nearly nicked an undeserved share of the spoils when Toumani Diagouraga cancelled out Jones' first-half penalty with 10 minutes to go. But Jones scored his fifth goal in five games with an unstoppable 30-yard effort to earn the home side a deserved win. Bulls goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, on loan from Liverpool, pulled off a string of superb saves. Danny Woodards beat Gulacsi with a 30-yard strike after the break but his shot came back off the upright. The Railwaymen went ahead when Sam Hewson handled on the line to keep out Julien Baudet's header in the 55th minute. Hewson was shown a straight red and Jones stepped up to convert the spot-kick. Jones' mis-hit cross beat Gulacsi but came back off the crossbar before Hereford scored with their first shot on target in the 79th minute when Diagouraga nodded in a corner. But Jones had the final say with his 83rd-minute screamer.
