Railwaymen fail to break down Imps

Crewe and Lincoln played out a goalless draw as 90 minutes of football could not separate the League Two duo at the Alexandra Stadium. The hosts came into Saturday's fixture on some decent form having won two games on the spin, whereas Chris Sutton's Imps had gone seven games without a win in England's third tier. It was a dour affair in which only Clayton Donaldson added spice to the contest as the striker's blast cannoned against the crossbar in what proved to be Crewe's best opportunity against a struggling Lincoln. The in-form Donaldson, who hit the goal trail in his three previous matches, struck the woodwork after a smart first-half interchange with John Brayford. The second half saw the hosts come the closest to taking the lead when Joel Grant shot wide while Calvin Zola nearly broke the deadlock as he glanced a header off target. The only serious chance for the visitors came when Eric Lichaj ran down on goal but Railwaymen shot-stopper Steve Phillips maintained Alex's four-match unbeaten run as he easily diverted the shot away from danger. So it finished goalless which means Crewe remain 14th, while Lincoln grabbed an important point in their bid for a safety and are still one place above the drop zone.
