Michael Twiss set up both of Morecambe's goals in their 2-1 win against Crewe.
Goals from Jim Bentley and Phil Jevons earned the visitors their first win on the road and dragged the home side to within six points of the drop zone.
Morecambe took a seventh-minute lead when Crewe keeper Steve Phillips failed to deal with Twiss' inswinging corner and Bentley headed the ball through the static shot-stopper's legs at the far post.
The Alex defence was guilty of ball-watching again as Jevons pulled Twiss' pass down, turned and lashed home a stunning strike in the 37th minute.
Crewe's best move of the match resulted in Byron Moore netting only to be called offside, before substitute Steven Schumacher nodded in Ashley Westwood's 78th-minute cross to offer Crewe a lifeline but the fightback never materialised.
