Main and Carlton goals secure points

Aldershot slipped to a comprehensive 2-0 defeat to Darlington thanks to goals in each half from Curtis Main and Danny Carlton. A goal just before the break knocked the stuffing out of the visitors, who had dominated the opening half, and a commanding display by Dave Penney's side in the second-half saw the hosts secure a welcome three points. Darlington took the lead in first-half injury time. Teenage striker Main was left unmarked inside the area and calmly side-footed the ball into the far corner of the net from close range. The Quakers increased their advantage in the 72nd minute when Carlton fired in off the far post from close range after good work from Ricky Ravenhill. Aldershot's best chance fell to Jake Robinson in the 20th minute. Robinson saw his close-range effort turned goalwards by Darlington captain Steve Foster but Andy Oakes tipped the ball around the post at full stretch. Oakes came to his side's rescue again in the 27th minute when he tipped a piledriver from Andy Sandell over the bar.
