Darlington are into the northern area semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after beating Bury.

Quakers hold out to beat fellow League Two side Bury

Darlington progressed into the northern area semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after beating Bury 1-0 in a dour clash. The home side took the lead in the 53rd minute when defender Alan White fired in his fourth goal of the season after the Bury defence failed to clear a free-kick from Tim Ryan. In a lacklustre first half Darlington midfielder Franz Burgmeier went close in the sixth minute with a low drive across goal and then Bury defender Ryan Cresswell had a goal disallowed in the 27th minute for a push after heading in from a Michael Jones free-kick. Bury tried desperately to get back on level terms when, in the 65th minute, Richie Baker saw his shot spilled by Darlington keeper Prezyslaw Kazimierczak and the loose ball was hooked away from danger by Neil Austin. The Shakers went even closer in the 77th minute when striker Andy Bishop lobbed Kazimierczak and saw his effort bounce off the crossbar but the hosts were able to hold Bury at bay.
