Hulbert off as Carlton nets winner

Promotion hopefuls Darlington grabbed a 1-0 victory against Rotherham after playing the final half hour with 10 men. Darlington's Franz Burgmeier was denied an opener in the 17th minute when Rotherham keeper Andy Warrington superbly tipped the ball over the bar. But the hosts took the lead in the 22nd minute when on-loan striker Danny Carlton netted a close-range header from a Pawel Abbott right wing cross. Rotherham went close through Alex Rhodes who headed wide in the 24th minute and then on the half hour Reuben Reid sent a low right foot drive narrowly wide. Darlington were reduced to 10 men when Robin Hulbert received a second yellow card in the 57th minute after an aerial challenge involving Drewe Broughton. The Quakers had to defend for the majority of the half as Rotherham sensed a chance to get something out of the game. The half was sloppy as the hosts defended desperately and only Broughton managed to test Darlington keeper Dean Gerken with a low volley in the 75th minute as Darlington held out.
