Dundee United have pulled level on points with Hibernian after beating the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship leaders 1-0 at Tannadice Park on Friday night.

A crowd of 10,925 turned up for the top-of-the-table clash and the home fans left happy thanks to a 73rd-minute Tony Andreu penalty.

Hibs remain atop the table on goal difference but were left to rue Martin Boyle's spot-kick miss.

After a fairly scrappy first half-hour or so, the hosts created a decent chance when Andreu picked out Nick van der Velden but the Dutchman lost control before he could cross for Scott Fraser.

Blair Spittal then had another good opportunity for the hosts but Hibs defender Darren McGregor made a good block.

The action picked up after the break and Hibs won a 54th-minute penalty when Lewis Toshney fouled Martin Boyle.

Boyle was selected to take the penalty rather than Grant Holt but was unable to convert, Cammy Bell diving to his right to block.

And Bell then produced another decent stop to foil Andrew Shinnie.

Bell's efforts got their reward with just over 15 minutes left when Dundee United sub Simon Murray did well to power past challenges before he was felled by Liam Fontaine.

Andreu calmly found the net to secure all three points for The Tangerines.
